News
- Drug Prevention Art Competition – 2024 conducted by the Western Province Social Services Department
- The election for the establishment of the Western Provincial Council of Elders was held on 28.03.2024 at the main auditorium of the Provincial Council. After the resignation of the previous officers, the new officers were appointed.
- The Provincial Elderly Festival held in conjunction with the International Elderly Day was held on 17.10.2023 at Manelwatta Nagananda Buddhist Center Auditorium.
Introduction
Caring for the elders in general and looking after the elders in our own homes as well as in the homes for the aged by way of nursing, bathing and feeding them.
Objectives
- To highlight the act for treating elders.
- To change the rigid attitudes meted out to elderly community.
- To add value to the elderly community.
Goal
Reconstruction of a society replete with harmony that the society itself is taking care of the helpless people in destitute living in the Western Province
Asarana Sarana 2019
- Establishment of a psycho social residential background for the elders residing in the Homes for the Aged across the Colombo district in the Western Province.
- Provision of training to officers serving in Homes for the Aged to look after and care for the elders in a manner that advocates psychological perspective of the elderly age.
- Training of officers as trainers to inculcate aspects of on mindfulness or ‘Sathimath Bava’.
- Improving the knowledge of the officers who provide protection to elders.
- Inculcation of a Relaxation Method (Seheliyakarana) of mental therapy into care giving officers.
This programme is slated to be held in the auditorium of the Apeksha Hospital on the 19th of September 2019.
