News
- The election for the establishment of the Western Provincial Council of Elders was held on 28.03.2024 at the main auditorium of the Provincial Council. After the resignation of the previous officers, the new officers were appointed.
- The Provincial Elderly Festival held in conjunction with the International Elderly Day was held on 17.10.2023 at Manelwatta Nagananda Buddhist Center Auditorium.
- Simple song solo basic vocal test programs will be held on 29.07.2023 at the Senior Citizen Welfare Service Center in Colombo District and on 04.08.2023 at the Senior Citizen Welfare Service Center in Kalutara.
Introduction
Alms giving and Shramadana campaigns for the benefit of inmates in Homes for the Aged, Homes for the Children, Homes for the Disabled and hospitals are conducted here.
Objectives
- To extend help to helpless persons and provide them with facilities they need.
- To make awareness of the issues in the society and encourage the society to be considerate of them.
- To empower the society for the provision of relief to helpless people.
- Following the implementation of the Atha Hitha Project, various individuals, voluntary organizations and institutions have come forward to lend a hand to homes for the aged and homes for the children with cash and kind, meals and beverages and voluntary labour.
- Various items of food and beverages, clothing, dry rations in the form of donations as well as voluntary labour were on offer particularly to the homes of Meth Sevana, Mith Sevana and Seth Sevana under the purview of the Department of Social Service of the Western Province and the years ahead will also see the continuation of such agreed assistance.
Goal
Reconstruction of a society replete with harmony that the society itself is taking care of the helpless people in destitute living in the Western Province.
Atha Hitha Project 2019.09.17
Around 20 homes are being maintained for the persons with disabilities by various organizations in the Gampaha district and there are children with disabilities as well as persons with disabilities belonging to different age groups among them. This time around, it is expected under the Athahitha programme being set in motion in parallel to the social benevolence week to hold an entertainment programme targeting the persons with disabilities confined to homes and the organizations working towards the cause of such persons with a view to uplifting their living standard and physical and mental health. It is proposed to avail the opportunity to bring to light their skills of artistic talents as well as to have them brought into appreciation. Accordingly, with the representation of Divisional Secretariats in the district of Gampaha, it is hoped to conduct this programme on 17.09.2019.
