Vision : To empower the community to extend help to one extra child in addition to their own children.
Introduction
It is herein expected to replenish the needs of the school going children of the low income families identified at the level of Divisional Secretariat Divisions by way of introducing foster parent system on behalf of such needy children.
Objectives
To provide equal opportunities to children of low income earner families for education.
To make available opportunity for them to succeed in their educational activities.
Goal
Extending a helping hand to all school going children of the low income families living in the Western Province in such a manner that the economic problems stand in their way to education.
*A sum of Rs. 188,600.00 in the form of scholarship has been made available by the community under foster parent scheme.
23.09.2019–Du Puthu Mapiya Sarana Project
Even though the provision of student assistance by the Department of Social Service of the Western Province to children numbering more than 6000 belonging to low income families who have lost both the mother and the father or those with no father is an annual occurrence as at present, it has been observed that there is a large number of children living in this province who are studying amidst economic difficulties due to varied reasons despite the fact that their father and mother are living. On this particular day, under the Du Puthu Mapiya Sarana project initiated by our Department with a view to making educational activities of such children a success, a token presentation of 50 foster parent scholarships by the willing sponsors with a sense to extend help and the appreciative felicitation of the gesture of such sponsors are due to be taken place. Arrangements have been made to hold this event in the District Secretariat of Kalutara.
