Mayura Guidance Center for Children

It has become really essential to reorganize the facilities towards guidance addressing gravely complex issues and problems of the present and future generation of the disabled community. It is therefore very feasible to develop the Physiotherapy Center situated in the premises of the Special Disabled Children’s Home belonging to the Social Service Society Ltd. of Weththewa, Mathugama in the district of Kalutara into a Guidance Center for Children taking its exclusive resources too into consideration.

Apart from the Guidance Center for Children at Pathiragoda, Navinna in Colombo and the Guidance Center for Children in Ratnapura initiated by the Line Department of Social Service during the decade of 2000, institutions such as these have not been spread out to other districts as against the needs of the disabled community living in our country where such a need has become a dire necessity. Plans are being drawn out to set up Guidance Centers in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara in the Western Province in future. Particularly, the Guidance Center for Children has been earmarked to be constructed pivoting round a Physiotherapy Center above in the district of Kalutara.

Venue – The premises of the Special Disabled Children’s Home owned by the Social Service   Society Ltd. of Weththewa, Mathugama in the district of Kalutara in Western Province.

Objective – Seeing to the physical, mental, healthful, educational, cultural, economic as well as social wellbeing of the disability stricken community; Minimizing the disablement of the children up to five years of age from their birth with disabilities, by a higher percentage. Seeing to their early childhood development directing them to common pre-schools; Making them inclined to general school education in a substantial proportion; Directing them to special education in keeping with their special needs; Minimizing the disablement resorting to measures such as physiotherapy for physical organs, mental therapy and speech therapy over a long period; Directing the persons over 18 years of age to special vocational training; Directing them to income generating activities and turning them out to be a self-esteemed community capable of standing up on their own strength through economic development are the objectives envisaged.
